Caption: The temperature of Battle Creek warms at lower elevations due to higher air temperatures. The North Fork above its confluence with the South Fork is the warmest location and those upstream are cooler. Temperatures did not raise dramatically between Wildcat Diversion Dam and Eagle Canyon Dam because copious amounts of cold spring water were contributed in Eagle Canyon, the reach between the two locations. High flow releases in 1996 helped keep stream temperatures in ranges favorable to holding adult spring chinook in all reaches of the North Fork. Average daily water temperatures at the lowest station on the North Fork remained suitable for winter chinook eggs through the incubation period which ends June 30. See Info Links for information on temperature thresholds.
