Caption: The EPT Index is the number of species at a given location of the orders Ephemeroptera, Plectoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT). These are commonly known as mayflies, stoneflies and caddisflies. The species of aquatic invertebrates within these orders generally have higher water quality requirements than Diptera, Coleoptera or other orders. Data suggest that Butler Creek has low watershed impacts while Nordheimer Creek is approaching high impact range (see Info Links). Data were collected in 1995 by students at Forks of Salmon School as part of a macroinvertebrate environmental education project.
